My Conversation with One of Jehovah’s Witnesses [The Million $ Question]

My most viewed video across all platforms!

I’ve been meeting with one of Jehovah’s Witnesses regularly for a few months now. It’s been fun, he’s trying to convert me to his worldview and I’m praying he turns to the Biblical Christ.

I asked him (let’s call him Steve), “Steve, if the leaders of your organization (the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society) announced they are now in support of same-sex sexual acts, would you abandon your organization in order to stay aligned with Scripture?”

Predictably he said, “That would never happen, my organization would never support that!”

I pointed out that this is starting to happen in the Roman Catholic church now; I’m sure 17th century Roman Catholics never thought the pope would say the things Pope Francis is saying today.

Human institutions do err, even the best of them, especially given enough time. I don’t think my conservative, non-denominational Christian church would ever announce support of same-sex sexual acts, but if they did, I’d leave that church in a heart-beat!

I have zero problem answering that hypothetical because I know it’s possible for human organiztions to fail—my allegiance is to God and His Word not to human organizations.

The question I asked Steve turned out to be an allegiance detector.

Steve has no concept in his mind that his organization can err from the Word of God. This makes, in effect, his organization itself the very word of God. That is, there is nothing by which the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society can be judged. This is to ascribe something to fallible man that ought only be ascribed to our God and Father—the very definition of idolatry!

I for one will agree with the Scriptures that say “Let God be true, even if every man be found a liar.” (Romans 3:4)
